Our local Nisa-Nashim groups were very busy during Ramadan, hosting Interfaith Iftars (the daily meal Muslims eat to break the fast at nightfall during Ramadan) all over the country and getting involved in their local Great Get Together events, an organisation  set up in the memory of Jo Cox MP who was murdered last year. The one year anniversary of Jo Cox’s death fell during Ramadan, and people of all faiths and none gathered across the country on the weekend of 16th – 18th June to celebrate her life, and put into action her conviction that we all have more in common than that which divides us.

Our North East group were invite to attend a Great Get Together Iftar at the United Hebrew Congregation Newcastle Upon Tyne Synagogue on Sunday 18th June. The Iftar was organised by Rabbi Aaron Lipsey and Dipu Ahad, a local councillor, and our North East group were thrilled to be involved. Over 160 people attended, including Imans, the Bishop of Newcastle, local MPs and representatives from the military and the police. Muzoon Rakan Al-Melehen, a refugee and Unicef’s youngest ever Goodwill Ambassador was also there.

Below are some pictures of our North-East Nisa-Nashim group enjoying the event. Please contact Nisa-Nashim’s Project Manager Julia if you are interested in joining your local Nisa-Nashim group.
