July 2021 marked the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide and Nisa-Nashim organised its yearly commemoration.

For us, as Muslim and Jewish women, remembering the horrors which occurred in Bosnia is particularly important, especially if we consider that incidents around Islamophobia and Antisemitism are on the rise.

Over 40 women joined online to discuss the events around Srebrenica.

Elinor Chohan MBE DL, Chair of Remembering Srebrenica North West Regional Board, walked us through the 10 stages of genocide model, and moderated a very fascinating discussion on what are the parallels between the Holocaust and Srebrenica, and what we should do to learn the lessons.

It was a hour of reading, testimonies and commemorations, but also one filled with hope for a much better future.

Check out Remembering Srebrenica UK, to make sure we keep the memory alive.
