On 6th September 2023 Nisa-Nashim West Midlands held a demonstration in protest against restrictions to girls wearing the hijab in school, here in Burmingham in 2021. I remember our rabbi, Margaret Jacobi, saying then it was very damaging, forcing girls to choose between religious identity and education, at a formative and vulnerable time. Felt great to be free to stand and speak out together – with our megaphone – in the public square too!
